Educational Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (E-SPLOST) Public Comment

The Lee County School System is seeking input from our families regarding the Educational Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (E-SPLOST) and the proposed projects associated with the renewal of the 1-cent sales tax , which will be on the ballot in May 2026. This is not a new tax. It is an extension of the current 1-cent sales tax (not an additional tax; not property tax).
The penny sales tax spreads the responsibility of educating our children to all citizens and visitors of the community. Anyone who spends money in Lee County is funding the ESPLOST, regardless of whether or not the person lives in the county.
If approved by voters, the renewal would be used to support critical school system needs such as retiring existing bond debt, facility improvements, building renovations, technology replacements, and school bus purchases— without increasing property taxes. The E-SPLOST ensures the cost of these items is covered without using operating funds.
